Somewhere in E4 a leg is in plaster

I can’t believe it. It’s taken me 4 months to get back a really good level of fitness – and then I break my ankle. When I keeled over on the bike during our ride on Saturday I heard a horrible cracking sound. But as I could stand was convinced it was just a ligament or tendon. Two days later found out it was a break. I can’t ride for SIX WEEKS! Aaarrrggghhhh.

Can’t help but see the irony that this happens to me who bangs on about safety. Just unlucky but it goes to show if you will have Mountain Biking as your hobby accidents can and do happen – you’ve been warned!! By the way, I’m waiting for my heroine award being as I got back on my bike and cycled from Loughton to High Beech with it bust!

But the most important news is this won’t stop the rides carrying on as usual. I always intended the group would reach a point where it would be self running. Fortunately, there are now so many riders with plenty who know the forest well enough to lead that point’s now been reached.

And every cloud has a silver lining. When I return in early December I could lead some slower/introductory rides for a month or so. The pace will be capped by my limited fitness. This will be a real opportunity for some of you – particularly in the Virtual rider group – to come and try the rides as you should be more than able to keep up. There it is. A genuine chance for those of you have not come along thus far to have a go. Put a note in your diary for six weeks time in early December when my cast comes off!

Love Ya! Elly x
