ELLY'S GOING - here's how to organise your events

posted by: Elly, (10 January 2008) comments [1]

It has been a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun coming up with the idea of Social Riders and seeing it go from 3 of us on 30 June 2007 to 110 by January 2008.
But as you know I’ve now decided to stand down. I have no further involvement in organising or advising in any capacity from now on. But you know you can easily keep in touch with one another by using this BLOG …..

OUR FIRST XMAS SOCIAL WAS BRILL!!

posted by: Elly, (19 December 2007) comments [1]

We’ve gone from an idea to 110+ in just six months and 18 December was our very first ‘proper’ Social. A Party/Dinner & Dance was held at the Prince Regent and attended by 20 of us.
I think it’s absolutely true to say a great time was had by all – hope some of the others will write in with their views ……

WAS THIS THE BEST RIDE SO FAR??

posted by: Elly, (18 November 2007) comments [1]

Sat 17 November’s ride seems to have been a massive success.
The main groups experience seemed to be this ride was one of the best yet – even though it was not one of the fastest ever. You can’t go flat out with and keep a big group of 15-18 together. So although some within that group were capable of riding faster – I bet they wouldn’t have enjoyed themselves more. I’ve got this physics thing in my head that translates to the fun of any ride reducing in direct proportion as the speed gets faster!! Faster doesn’t equal better and these reviews prove it!

FIRST EVER EASIER/ENTRY LEVEL RIDE

posted by: Elly, (18 November 2007) comments [1]

To give some of the riders on the list who have never yet come along a chance to experience a forest ride without being under pressure Dawn offered her services. Ian, another of our regular riders, also decided to go with Dawn as quite honestly the riding conditions on the single track right now do not appeal to everyone. Great reactions to this ride which is clearly going to be a big success. When the nice weather returns I can see a lot of people turning up for this. Read the reviews……..

WHO IS TOTALLY BANANAS????

posted by: Neil Hooper, (10 November 2007) comments [0]

This Saturday’s ride was to my knowledge the first ride where we actively split the ride into 2 groups before the off. This came about following a couple of difficult weekends where the size of the group plus assorted skills & fitness levels presented problems in holding the group together. The intention based on previous experience was to compose 2 groups , a fast group and slightly slower one. ( A reasonable plan given the structure of previous weeks turn outs).

However, this week saw a total absence of inexperienced riders & a surprise visit by the SAS MTB group.

Somewhere in E4 a leg is in plaster

I can’t believe it. It’s taken me 4 months to get back a really good level of fitness – and then I break my ankle. When I keeled over on the bike during our ride on Saturday I heard a horrible cracking sound. But as I could stand was convinced it was just a ligament or tendon. Two days later found out it was a break. I can’t ride for SIX WEEKS! Aaarrrggghhhh.

Our Group Nearing the 50 mark

posted by: Elly, (15 October 2007) comments [0]

Look — we are now nearing the 50 mark – how amazing is that?! Actually, not so amazing when you look at the brilliant rides we’ve been having which are going from strength to strength. Had another fabulous ride today, perfect weather and there were 8 of us – which is very good for during the week. From my door and back and the ride was 20 miles – no surprise then that all of our fitness is improving. { Sorry for you poor souls who have the drag of having to work :)) }

Going from strength to strength.

posted by: Elly, (11 October 2007) comments [0]

The rides seem to be going from strength to strength. This has been helped by perfect riding conditions – very little mud now and outstanding weather. We’re flying along single track as all of our skills and fitness picks up week by week. On a personal level I don’t think I can ever remember enjoying riding as much as right now – and from Monday to Sunday with 5 rides have clocked up 95 miles – the most I’ve ever done in one week. And to do this in the company of such fun people – what more could you ask for? Do it while you can – these fabulous conditions won’t last forever.

Great Saturday Ride

posted by: Elly, ( 9 October 2007) comments [0]

Fortunately the forest was a little drier than last week even though in areas mud patches are developing. But Saturday was a great ride.

Over the last few weeks we’ve had quite a few new, good riders coming along including, Tony – an ex-downhiller. Tony is a lovely guy and from his first time with us automatically helped the slower ones by staying back to show them the way. Then last week his pal Lee also came along.
